about

In the mid 80’s ILLUMINATOR were a force in the metal scene of upper Franconia (an area located in the north of Bavaria). During a short period of time, a very rough speed/trash band became a progressive metal act. Beside the usual suspects Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica and Slayer they were also influenced by Agent Steel, Mekong Delta, Queensryche and Fates Warning. After a lot of gigs and one (!) Live-Demo it all came to an end. Without any perspective in music business and forced to make decisions for their future lives (all of the band members were in their late teens at that time), ILLUMINATOR split up. Only guitar player Oliver Schmidt and singer Rainer Michael Ludwig combined forces and talents in Avalon, later Noom. Their CD “Noom” and the lost and forgotten recordings “Fake Planet Report” (released in 2021) were highly recommended by prog nerds worldwide. After that, Oliver Schmidt played with Letzte Instanz, Frogstar Battle Machine, now with Secret Source and The Black Effect. Rainer Ludwig released albums with Lunarchy and Sahin feat. Ludvik. During the corona pandemic, Oliver Schmidt reanimated some of the old ILLUMINATOR songs. With the abilities gained in over three decades of musicianship and up to date technical know-how he did a real makeover with the original songs. Rainer Michael Ludwig jumped in soon – but only after determining that he would like to pimp up the vocals as well. So the planned five songs became two by five songs. Every one with state-of-the-art instrumentation, every one with “old” and “new” vocal lines. A very unusual way to handle the case, but at the some time an exciting experiment. So here comes “PAST LIGHTS PRESENCE LIGHTS PAST” !
